Green Cleaning
Look for this symbol in places of business to ensure the building you are in is cleaned using Eagle's "green" cleaning system

There is a new sensibility about greening our environment - people and governments are
now committed to green principles!

Accepted practices of the past 50 years with respect to chemicals, equipment and procedures are being challenged and replaced by green products and procedures which have a more healthful effect on human beings and the environment. Green cleaning means the use of products and procedures that have less of an impact on the environment than others and serve the same functions. At Eagle we have instituted Green products and procedures into our services. On many of our buildings that we service you will see our green certificate of cleaning posted near the entrance. In these facilities we are following the green guidelines for services as outlined below.

  1. Health and Environment. Employee's low productivity and poor performance can be the result of building related illnesses and may pay for itself in switching to green service programs.

  2. Review Current Products and Practices - Current programs must be assessed to determine what practices may be continued or implemented into the new green cleaning program. Gather information such as manufacture, vendor information, MSDS labels of products currently being used, personal protective equipment (PPE), special handling of products and disposal requirements and where the products are to be applied. Transitioning to a safer, healthier cleaning protocol is an opportunity to standardize practices.

  3. Using Green Cleaning Products - Use certified green cleaning products. Many products nowadays will be labeled "Designed for Environment" (DFE) which is approved by the federal government's Department of Environmental Protection. Products that follow these standards reduce chemical exposure to both cleaning workers and building occupants.

  4. Use Green Equipment and Supplies - Capture dust and microscopic particles rather than putting them back in the air. Use micro-fiber dust mops or vacuum cleaners to dry clean hard floors. High-efficiency vacuums that have hepa filtration systems which will help to trap microscopic materials that can adversely impact building occupant health. Use microfiber cloths to capture dust rather than rags and furniture polish.

  5. Decrease Entry of Dirt and Pollutants - Paying attention to entryways inside and out. Install walk-off mats that will help to trap and remove dirt and debris before coming into work areas. Properly clean these entry mats.

  6. Disinfect Only in Areas That Require It - Indoor air quality is affected by dirt, dust, and chemicals that we put into the air. EPA registered disinfectants are categorized as pesticides. The chemicals used to kill bugs can pollute the air if overused. Choice and proper use of disinfectants is part of a good training program for the cleaning company that services your facility.

  7. Use Green Paper and Plastic Products - Use janitorial paper products that has a significant percentage of recycled content. Look for paper products that are produced without using chlorine. Many paper and plastic goods such as paper towels, toilet paper and trash liners have been green certified by third-party organizations.

  8. Education, Training and Enforcing - Everyone doesn't know how to clean. Properly trained custodial staff and managers will ensure that procedures are performed properly and safely. Through continued education and direction your staff can maintain and improve the green cleaning program.
